残念ながら合法的なんだそうだ。この三年間でグーグルは本拠地のあるカリフォルニアで払うはずの31億ドルもの税金を払っていない。その「合法的な」手口はこうだ。まず彼らの言う「ダブル・アイリッシュ」という二つのアイルランドの会社で税率を米国の35％の所得税からアイルランドの2.4％の税率に下げる。次にその剰余金をバミューダに送るのだが、そのためにいったんオランダを経由させる。彼らはこれを「ダッチ・サンドイッチ」と呼ぶ。さて、最終地バミューダでは税率はゼロなので所得税は消える。

ブルーンバーグ・ニューズのこの記事は今あちこちで引用されており、たった今も ABC のワールド・ニューズで聞いた。ブルーンバーグのジェシー・ドラッカー記者が実際にバミューダのグーグル社を尋ねてみたら支社長と二人の弁護士、合わせて３人だったそうだ。ここで31億ドルの税金になるはずの儲け全てが消費されたことになる。まあ、こんだけあれば教育費でもなんでも助かるのではあるが、氷山の一角で多数の多国籍企業がそうしてるんだって。まさにザル法じゃん。
